ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday ordered to close Dr Shahid Masood’s program for three months while the anchorperson sought unconditional apology from the Apex Court.

In his remarks towards Dr Shahid Masood, the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said that you have asked to be hanged if the News is false but we are not hanging you.

The Chief Justice said that we will see whether according to the PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) rules your program or Channel can be closed or not?

Justice Saqib Nisar said that we will see what action can be taken against Shahid Masood as per these laws. He said that you (Dr Shahid Masood) think that the courts are weak but these are not the older Courts.

Dr Shahid Masood in his program “Live with Dr Shahid Masood” aired on “News One” on January 24, 2018 had hurled startling allegations, saying that an organized pornography gang was behind Imran Ali – a 24-year-old convict who was awarded four-time death penalty apart from one life imprisonment and slap of Rs 3.2 million fine on February 17, 2018 by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore for brutally killing nine minor girls including Zainab in Kasur.

Eventually the Supreme Court took a Suo moto notice of Dr Shahid Masood’s allegations; however, the anchor failed to prove his allegations before the Court, and sought apology from the Court. But the Court declined to accept his apology, and warned him of strict action over his baseless accusations.

Pakistan can assist CARs in bringing Banking Sector Reforms: Shaukat Tarin

$

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin on Wednesday said Pakistan had a very well established banking system, and it could assist Central Asian Republics (CARs) in bringing massive transformation in their Banking Sectors as well.

While delivering an address on the topic “Pakistan a Land of Opportunity: The Security Paradigm” at an International Conference “Pakistan: A Land of Opportunities for Central Asian Republics” in Islamabad which was also attended by regional experts and delegations, Shaukat Tarin said Banking Sector Reforms lied at the heart of Pakistan’s GDP growth performance – up 7.3 times from US$40 billion in 1990 to US$292 billion in 2017.

Shaukat Tarin said banking was the Central Channel to transport National Savings into productive loans and investments; therefore, it had to be given the highest priority. He said CARs could speed up their Banking Sector Reform process through collaboration with Pakistan.

The former finance minister said in late 90’s, Pakistan decided to undertake vital Banking Sector Reforms to meet serious growth objectives. He apprised that eventually Pakistan undertook Banking Sector Reforms which included Restructuring and Privatization of Public Sector Banks; Opening of the Sector to Private Investment; Raising Capital Requirements; Improving Asset Quality; Liberalizing Foreign Exchange Regime; Strengthening Prudential Regulations; and introduced Islamic Banking, Consumer Financing, Mortgage Financing, SME Financing, and Micro-financing. Besides, he added, Pakistan also ensured legal as well as taxation reforms.

Shaukat Tarin said resultantly Banking Sector Reforms bore fruits, and now more than 80% of the Banking Industry in Pakistan was in Private Sector and running efficiently. He said there was an efficient regulator that oversaw the industry while banks were motivated to compete on service and quality of products.

In addition, he apprised that in Pakistan, non-performing loans (NPLs) were down to less than 9% of total loans as new loans had recovery rates of over 90%. He said improved recovery laws kept balance sheets healthy, and lower tax rates – from 58% to 35% – encouraged sponsors to continue investing for growth.

Likewise, he added, Corporate Lending had enabled the Country to set up large projects across Telecoms, Power, Oil and Gas and critical infrastructure.

Shaukat Tarin said there was a thriving Consumer Industry in Pakistan – generating taxes, creating employment and raising disposable incomes – on account of Consumer Financing.

The former finance minister further said following its introduction, Islamic Banking’s contribution in overall financing had risen sharply. He said SME financing was witnessing a major revival through program based lending. Likewise, he added individuals at lower incomes were taking credit from Micro Finance banks which were growing aggressively.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Security Advisor Lt. General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua on Wednesday said Pakistan and Central Asian States formed a Future Economic Bloc, adding they would continue to strive for connecting themselves through Kashgar and Tajikistan etc till Afghanistan’s stability.

While addressing an International Conference titled “Pakistan: A Land of Opportunities for Central Asian Republics” organized by the National Security Division (NSD) of Government of Pakistan and Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS) in Islamabad, Nasser Janjua said Muslim World would be a major part of the Future Economic Bloc as Pakistan, Central Asia, Iran, Turkey and Gulf Countries were all connected with the land.

“This part which is mix of Eurasia and Muslim Bloc will be reality of the World and the Future Economic Bloc,” the security adviser said.

The adviser said Pakistan could become massive trade hub as it would become trade corridor of the World being a part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Nasser Janjua said Eurasia made 70 percent of the global population and connected land. “We have resources of huge Eurasia. If we work together we can provide a great prosper future to our coming generations,” he said.

Pakistan, Central Asian States form Future Economic Bloc: Nasser Janjua

The security adviser said connectivity of the World was possible through the Indian Ocean. He said India, Pakistan and Iran were main Countries which would give access to Central Asia to the Indian Ocean. However, he added, India was not connected with Central Asia while Iran didn’t had any direct link with China.

“Pakistan is the only Country that connects China with the Indian Ocean and Iran,” he maintained adding that Pakistan had a unique geopolitical positioning.

Nasser Janjua was of the view that Pakistan and Central Asian Republics (CARs) relationship was a divine management.

“We have same religion, we are linked by land, we are linked by history and we are the future economic bloc for the World,” the adviser said.

Furthermore, the security adviser said the former Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, and if Pakistan did not stand by Afghanistan, could there have been any Afghanistan today? He said Pakistan stood with Afghanistan that ultimately caused establishment of Central Asian Republics. He said the Eastern European and Central Asian Independent Republics came into being because Pakistan stood with Afghanistan at a very heavy cost.

Nasser Janjua said overwhelmed by Afghan instability, the region had multiple challenges from tackling extremism to outstanding land and water disputes among regional Countries, and drug trafficking.

Terming the scenario as Rebalancing Asia Policy, the adviser was of the view that great powers’ rivalries was being aggravated in Asia wherein China and the Russian Federation were taken as challengers, and called as Revisionist States.

The national security adviser said by injecting instability in Afghanistan, the war-stricken Country was being used to checkmate CARs, Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan.

Nasser Janjua said extremist ideologies were on the rise while the presence of Daesh/ISIS was also threatening the entire region and illegal business of narcotics had flourished to $130 billion.

Likewise, he said now it had become a two-front situation for Pakistan as well as for India in South Asia, as Pakistan had to deal with threatening elements from India and Afghanistan while India was forced to become extra vigilant from borders linked with China and Pakistan.

The adviser said Pakistan’s over reliance on nuclear arsenals to bridge the conventional asymmetry while deterring arch-rivals India from taking any proactive action was brought under stress.

Turning back the instability and extremism being faced by the region, Nasser Janjua said terrorism was their common challenge which they have to fight together. “We are facing common threats,” he maintained.

The adviser said Pakistan was engaged in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) adjoining Afghanistan, Balochistan and Karachi by terrorists but as a nation they fought back against terrorism and won the war.

The national security adviser said Pakistan launched Zarb-e Azb-and Karachi Operations to eradicate terrorism and militancy while they also successfully established writ of the state in Balochistan.

“Pakistani flags were burnt in Balochistan now every Balochi love to carry flag of Pakistan,” he said. “We won war of narrative.”

Nasser Janjua said Pakistan was blamed that it was playing double game and providing safe havens to Taliban. He said Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was hiding in Afghanistan and wanted to destabilize Pakistan by claiming that they were supporting infidels in war against terrorism.

Chief Editor DND Agha Iqrar Haroon along with Lt General (retd) Nasser Janjua

“If Pakistan had support of Haqqani network then Pakistan could ask network to stop TTP to leave its war against the state of Pakistan because TTP leadership is residing in Afghanistan and could be snubbed by Haqqanis,” he argued.

The adviser said it was strange that Pakistan was blamed for terrorism it had been facing and having suffered loss of 60,000 precious lives and $120 billion to its economy.

Earlier at the outset of his address, Nasser Janjua hailed the contribution of the Chief Editor Dispatch News Desk (DND) News Agency Agha Iqrar Haroon for strengthening of Pakistan-CARs relations, and described him a ‘passionate’ about Central Asian culture, having a deep knowledge about the region.

Nasser Janjua said after his return to Pakistan from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan visits, Agha Iqrar Haroon further briefed him about the unrealized potential of the region and apprised that how much fruitful the connectivity between Pakistan and Central Asian Countries could be in the future.

Pre-Match Story!!!

Peshawar Zalmi just survived a blitz from Anwar Ali and won the first Eliminator of PSL 2018 last night but now they have to overcome Karachi Kings tonight to reach the Final against Islamabad United on March 25 in Karachi.

What makes T20 Cricket a real thriller and heart-pounding game – was experienced on Tuesday night when Quetta Gladiators, after once having fallen to huge disappointment caused by losing back-to-back wickets which almost brought them on the verge of an embarrassing defeat, bounced back and took the game to the last ball.

Till 19th over, no one expected of Quetta Gladiators to turn the tide in their favour at the very last moment and made a spectacular comeback – courtesy Anwar Ali’s three sixes in last over off Liam Dawson.PTV Sports HBL PSL 2018 Peshawar Zalmi vs Karachi Kings Live Streaming

In the pursuit of 157 runs target, Quetta Gladiators had scored 133 runs for 8 in 19 overs with 25 runs yet required in last 6 balls to win the match. In the very first ball of 20th over, an edge off Anwar Ali’s bat just passed over staggering Darren Sammy and went to four. But next three sixes in four balls gave Quetta Gladiators a real hope of making it through. Though in the last ball, a Peshawar Zalmi’s fielder dropped the catch of an ill-timed shot at long on but Mir Hamza’s run out at non-striker end brushed aside all hopes of Quetta Gladiators.

The run out helped Peshawar Zalmi to win the first PSL Eliminator by just 1 run. They will face Karachi Kings in the second Eliminator at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today.

In the second PSL 2018 Eliminator, Karachi Kings will be led by Muhammad Amir because following the injury of Imad Wasim, Shahid Afridi also suffered an injury and ruled out of PSL 2018 while Eoin Morgan declined Pakistan’s tour.

Topics for discussion at the conference include matters relating to peace and reconciliation, counter terrorism and counter narcotics, as well as regional cooperation.
